Vegetable Christmas Tree with Parmesan Sauce
A festive tree of tender broccoli and cauliflower, cherry tomatoes and Parmesan sauce. Extra milk may be needed to thin the sauce; this is a practical adjustment to the source’s 1 tablespoon. Optional yellow pepper strips reproduce the photo garnish. About 4 portions in 35 minutes are estimates.

Instructions
4 steps- 1
Divide the broccoli and cauliflower into florets. Cover with water and boil until tender enough to mash easily, then drain well. If using pepper strips, soften them briefly in the cooking water.
- 2
For a smooth sauce, melt the butter over low heat, stir in the flour and cook briefly while stirring. Gradually whisk in the listed milk and additional milk as needed until smooth and pourable. This mixing order and extra milk are practical guidance.
- 3
Cook gently while stirring until the sauce thickens and the flour is cooked. Remove from the heat and stir in the Parmesan, nutmeg and a little salt to taste.
- 4
Arrange the vegetables as a tree and decorate with cherry tomatoes and optional softened pepper strips. Serve the sauce alongside. Before offering to children, quarter the tomatoes lengthwise and cut all vegetables into small soft pieces suited to their chewing ability.
