    Thoroughly wash all dried fruits under running water to remove any dust and impurities.

    Pour 2 liters of water into a large pot and bring it to a boil.

    Add the dried apples and pears to the boiling water, as they require more cooking time. Simmer for 15 minutes over medium heat.

    Add the dried plums and apricots. If using, add sugar. Continue simmering for another 10-15 minutes, until all the fruits are tender.

    Turn off the heat and leave the chiri in the pot to cool down and allow the flavors to meld. Ideally, let it rest for a few hours or overnight.

    Transfer the cooled chiri to a pitcher or other container and refrigerate. Serve chilled.
